From pv journal India

India’s MNRE has begun searching for stakeholder suggestions on the draft pointers for ALMM for photo voltaic cells, with plans to implement them from April 2026.

The MNRE goals to problem the ALMM record for PV cells from April 1, 2026, because it expects a big improve in put in photo voltaic capability within the subsequent two years. Mercom India mentioned in its latest “State of Solar PV Manufacturing in India 2024” report that India’s PV cell capability might exceed 75 GW by 2026, up from 5.8 GW in December 2023.

MNRE launched the ALMM coverage to guard the home photo voltaic business from Chinese imports. The coverage creates a non-tariff barrier, which permits home producers to take a bigger share of the market.

The MNRE has already printed the ALMM record for photo voltaic modules, which adjust to the Bureau of Indian Standards and meet the ministry’s effectivity standards. Starting April 1, 2024, solely modules and producers on this record are eligible for government-backed initiatives. The record at the moment consists of greater than 50 GW of module capability.

Projects underneath ALMM’s mandate should supply photo voltaic PV modules from the ALMM record and use cells from the identical record. Projects bidding earlier than the issuance of this order are exempt from this requirement, in keeping with MNRE.

The deadline for submitting suggestions on ALMM’s draft pointers is October 6, 2024.
