After a severe winter storm severely disrupted travel throughout the Chicago area, officials in Indiana issued a travel directive to help mitigate the effects of the storm.
With parts of northwestern Indiana hardest hit by the storm, officials issued statewide travel advisories, monitors and warnings Thursday night.
Under the “travel advisories” currently in place in Newton and Jasper counties, individuals are advised to exercise caution when traveling, but unsafe conditions may limit some travel. You have been notified that this is possible.
Counties under the “travel watch” currently in place in Lake and Porter counties, the situation is recognized as a public safety threat and only essential travel is recommended. In addition, businesses and government agencies have been asked to implement emergency action plans.
Under the “Travel Warning” currently issued in LaPorte County, residents are instructed to refrain from all travel while adhering to necessary emergency measures. Due to a travel warning in place, travel is restricted to emergency management personnel.
