Travel disruptions continued at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Thursday, with some passengers searching for lost luggage and others rebooking flights.
According to online flight tracking website FlightAware, 84 flights were canceled on Thursday, 80 of them by Southwest Airlines. Miami International Airport had a total of 29 cancellations, 28 of which were with Southwest Airlines, according to an online tracker.
Passenger Jonathan Fields was at the airport looking for his lost luggage.
“We arrived here with no luggage. We received two bags on Christmas Day, but the third never arrived,” Fields said.
Another passenger had a similar experience.
“I came back on Monday, and I came back that Tuesday, and I still don’t have my package today,” said Tawana Johnson.
Southwest Airlines is instructing passengers to submit baggage reports online or in person.
“If you haven’t picked up your baggage yet, you can send us information on how to pick it up for free,” Southwest Chief Commercial Officer Ryan Green said.
The Department of Transportation requires airlines to compensate for damaged, delayed or lost baggage up to $3,800.
Katie Nastro, travel expert for Scott’s cheap flights, says passengers should be aware of when they are eligible for a refund and when they are not.
“In the case of significant delays, missed connections or flights, you are entitled to a rebooking or a cash refund, and that also applies to cancellations,” Nastro said.
Remember – each airline has its own policy on when you are eligible for refunds on things like hotels, meals, and clothing.
“This can mean significant delays or lost luggage, and the definition of loss varies by airline, and the definition is nuanced. One day… two days, different policies,” said Nastro. rice field.
