High River City Council is in the process of purchasing software that can handle all municipal departments on one platform.
This new system handles payroll and benefits along with human resources.
Mayor Craig Snodgrass says it’s irreplaceable.
“Nowadays, to run a municipality, to own this, to own software like this, this is 100% necessary because today, with all electronic needs built in, “Because everything is there,” he says.
According to Snodgrass, there is a software system for businesses, but not yet for local governments, so this will be a big help.
Purchasing, implementing, and staffing the new system costs $220,000 per year, plus an additional $60,000 for licensing.
The mayor says finding the right system wasn’t easy.
“There are none in the Canadian market. There are some in the U.S. market, but they are all 100% U.S. based and none of the U.S. companies have a solution that meets Canada, various regulations, etc. You can’t go back to pen and paper on a sheet of Foolscap. ”
The contract was awarded to Ceridian Canada Ltd.
