The ingeniously titled “Blower” app claims to provide a way to blow out candles using your iPhone. It does this without making any real physical changes to your iPhone, and the app itself is quite small at 87.6 MB. Blower isn’t free, but it’s relatively inexpensive at $1.99 and works with iPhones, iPods, and iPads. If you’re an Android user and wondering why the iPhone crowd is having so much fun, don’t worry. Similar apps are available, some for just $0.49. Reviews for the Android version are mixed, though, so you may have to take advantage of the Play Store’s refund policy if your phone’s candle hasn’t gone out.
It contains a small animated fan that spins when you touch it with your finger, along with the sound the app makes when you press the “on/off” button. According to the app’s meter, the fan goes up to 40,000 RPM. This seems to be enough to extinguish small candles like those on birthday cakes. Bigger flames can be a bigger problem for the app’s animated fans.
Why would you need a Blower app? Hmm, no practical use. There aren’t many situations where you can’t use your lungs or your fingers when you need to pull out a really tiny candle. But it’s an interesting enough party trick, and the voice recognition feature lets you blow out candles remotely if you’re virtually at a birthday party or something.
