Apple’s Find My iPhone feature helped save a woman who was hit by a car in a Southern California car accident.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department wrote on Facebook Monday that firefighters were dispatched that day to a reported traffic accident on Highway 18 north of 40th Street.
The 911 caller reported that the vehicle was off the roadway.
The call was balanced with an “over-the-side rescue” mission to bring in additional personnel and equipment.

Three locomotives, a large rescue truck company, and a battalion commander responded at 6:12 AM PT.
The department said crew members found the vehicle about 200 feet below the roadway.
Firefighters and paramedics found a seriously injured adult female, the crew initiated advanced life support interventions, and arriving rescuers set up a rope system to lift the victim and rescue workers to safety. .

Firefighters used specialized urban search and rescue equipment. The equipment included a capstan raising system to lift the member safely.
After being hoisted safely, the patient was loaded into a waiting ambulance and taken to a local trauma center.

“The patient may have been in the crashed car overnight after leaving a family gathering. The family was concerned that they hadn’t spoken to her this morning and used Apple’s Find My iPhone feature. and traced her whereabouts.After investigating the location of the phone, a sideways vehicle [and] I called 911,” he said.
