merry christmas! After a rough start, temperatures have warmed more than we’ve seen in recent days since the recent Arctic explosions began.

Warmer days are approaching, but there will be fast-moving disturbances at night, and humidity will come into play, mainly in the form of freezing rain and light snowfall.

The build-up is light, but it can still cause travel trouble.Winter weather advisories are in place for areas where travel is expected to be most affected by Monday morning.

The system first appears tonight at a point near the Kansas/Nebraska border. Temperatures drop below freezing, but temperatures above are above freezing. This means that anything that falls will melt and refreeze on the surface.

It’s not a lot of volume, only 1/100th of an inch, but it can produce a light glaze that can cause smooth transfer. In this winter mixture, snow also tries to form. This event occurs early in the night before a quick track from our viewing area.

If you are traveling north and east overnight, you should exercise caution and closely monitor the roads. This is a preemptive strike from this system.

Temperatures will then drop through central and eastern Kansas through Monday, but points closer to the Kansas-Colorado border will be virtually unaffected and milder.

Winds will pick up for several hours as this front passes through the region with gusts of 30-40 degrees.

Wind chill is further east, with freezing temperatures Monday night. By Tuesday, the pendulum will be warmer and windier. Seeing the western community in the 60’s happens and carries over to Wednesday. In places like Wichita and other towns in central and eastern Kansas, it gradually gets warmer from 40 degrees to he 50 degrees by midweek. Thursday looks mild compared to recent standards before the next storm system organizes on Friday. There is a possibility of mixing.
