Corvallis, Oregon — If you’re interested in computers and cybersecurity, Oregon State University has won nearly $5 million in additional incentives to study there. The grant helps students complete a degree in the field if they agree to start a career as a civil servant.
Computers are becoming an increasingly part of our lives, from the way we communicate to the cars we drive and everything else in between.
With the growth of the computer world, there has been a huge increase in cyber security jobs.
To train more people in this field, the National Science Foundation gives grants to colleges and universities to cover student education and other expenses. These students are expected to take on cybersecurity roles in the federal government.
Oregon State University professors Rakesh Bobba and Dave Nevin said 29 students will benefit from the university receiving $4.8 million from NSF through its service scholarship program.
In return, graduates must first work for the federal government for the same number of years for which they received the scholarship.
OSU has the largest cybersecurity training program in the state, including a live cybersecurity center. Students are trained in cooperation with local governments and NPOs.
“Many of these jobs require experience, and cyber clinics help students gain that experience, so they will be more competitive for jobs when entering the job market,” says the clinic. said Niven, director of
Once students graduate, there is no shortage of well-paying jobs in and outside of government. According to Professors Boba and Nevin, he currently has 750,00 job openings nationwide, including his 7,500 in Oregon.
The prospects for someone specializing in this space are very good so far, and we expect them to be good for at least another decade,” said project leader Bobba.
There are approximately 200 undergraduate and graduate students in OSU’s cybersecurity program.
