- Nearly a fifth of IT professionals say their employees are unsafe when working remotely, according to Hornetsecurity survey
- Nearly three-quarters of remote staff have access to critical data
- Nearly half of respondents say their organizations plan to increase the percentage of their workforce working remotely in 2023.
Pittsburgh, January 12, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — A new study from leading cybersecurity provider Hornetsecurity found that 33% of businesses do not offer cybersecurity awareness training to their users working remotely.
The study also revealed that nearly three-quarters (74%) of remote staff have access to critical data. This poses more risks to enterprises in the new hybrid working world.

One-third of organizations do not provide cybersecurity training to remote workers, even though the majority of employees have access to critical data
Nearly half (44%) of respondents have plans to increase the proportion of their workforce working remotely, despite a current lack of training and employees feeling underequipped. says there is.
Daniel HoffmanCEO of Hornetsecurity, said:
“Traditional methods of managing and protecting company data are ineffective when employees are working remotely and greater responsibilities fall on individuals. Recognize, enable, and empower relevant security management systems to “employees” to address a certain level of risk.
Challenges and risks
An independent survey of 925 IT professionals of various industries and sizes around the world highlighted security management challenges and employee cybersecurity risks when working remotely.
The research uncovered two main issues that contributed to the risk. Employees have access to critical data and lack of training on how to manage cybersecurity and how to mitigate the risk of cyberattacks and breaches.
Hoffman commented: Allow people to work on their personal devices and access them frequently. ”
Remote work security issues
Companies have adapted to new ways of working, but the cybersecurity risks associated with remote work remain unaddressed. Nearly one-fifth (18%) of IT professionals said they were unsafe when their employees were working remotely, but almost three-quarters (74%) of them said it was important data can be accessed. Perhaps unsurprisingly, 14% of her respondents said their organization was hit by a cybersecurity incident of hers related to her work remotely.
Not only is remote work known among professionals to pose unique challenges, but people are experiencing the consequences of poor protection and poor remote management.
Lack of Knowledge Amplifies Risk
The survey also highlighted a lack of cybersecurity understanding, confidence and knowledge among employees working remotely. Nearly half (43%) of IT professionals rated their confidence in their remote security measures as “moderate” or lower, and the survey found that “uncontrolled file sharing” was a common cybersecurity incident. It was also found to be the cause (16%).
Organizations can reduce the risks associated with cybersecurity through increased education and training. For example, Hornetsecurity’s Security Awareness Training helps companies harden their human firewalls.
Using endpoint management
Having strong systems in place to protect employees is essential. The survey found that compromised endpoints (28%) and compromised credentials (28%) were the leading causes of cybersecurity incidents. Additionally, 15% of his employees said they use their device with some endpoint configuration for remote her work. It is clear that both security awareness training and investment in endpoint management systems are essential for organizations to achieve robust remote cybersecurity.
Hofmann concludes: risks of remote work”.
