Chautauqua County, New York (WIVB) — Mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted for the towns of Hanover and Sheridan, the villages of Silver Creek, Hanford Bay and Sunset Bay, Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendell announced Saturday. .
Evacuation was officially lifted at 1pm and residents were able to return to their homes.
Additionally, a travel advisory for the entire Chautauqua County was lifted Saturday by Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quatron. However, the state of emergency for all parts of Chautauqua County north of Route 5 remains in effect through Monday.
County officials are urging residents to exercise caution and not park their cars on the streets as they return home.
“Thank you to our first responders and road crew,” Wendell said. “This storm could have been very dangerous. First responders and road workers ensured the safe evacuation of people in Chautauqua County, especially along Lake Erie.”
