The new year is the scariest thing for those seeking elite status. Elite status eligibility criteria reset to zero.
Travel Elite status operates on the principle of annual requalification. Last year, I hope you earned a status (or status) that you will enjoy this year as well. Also, if you do not have Lifetime Status, you must requalify this year to extend your status for another year.
Luckily, some major loyalty programs offer status rollovers and other bonuses if you hold a credit card or requalify for elite status. However, these are not always posted at the same time, so you should monitor your account to make sure everything is posted properly.
With that in mind, here are the expected elite status rollovers this month and how to find out if you’re eligible.
Delta Air Lines Rollover MQM
Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQM) or Medallion Qualifying Segments (MQS) and Medallion Qualifying Dollars (MQD) are required to achieve Delta Status. Here are the number of MQMs, MQSs and MQDs you must earn in 2023 to extend your Delta status:
- Silver medallion status: 25,000 MQMs or 30 MQS + 3,000 MQDs.
- Gold medallion status: 50,000 MQMs or 60 MQS + 8,000 MQDs.
- Platinum medallion status: 75,000 MQMs or 100 MQS + 12,000 MQDs.
- Diamond medallion status: 125,000 MQM or 140 medallion eligible segments + 20,000 MQD.
Delta will roll over each MQM earned over your status level last year. For example, you are a platinum medallion and he finished 2022 with 105,000 MQM. So this year we will start with 30,000 MQM.
To calculate your rollover MQMs, subtract your status level requirements from your total MQMs for 2022.
Unfortunately MQS and MQD do not roll over. However, if you want to earn his MQDs for a nominal nominal fee, check out our guide to earning his MQDs on partner airlines. Thus, one of his TPG staff almost requalified for his medallion of diamonds on a trip to South Africa.
Rollover MQMs are now listed on surveyed SkyMiles accounts.

Rollover Hilton nights
Hilton rolls over the extra nights earned beyond the status requirement, starting with entry-level status. Here’s what it takes to earn Hilton status this year.
- Silver: 10 Nights or 4 Stays or 25,000 Base Points.
- Money: 40 Nights or 20 Stays or 75,000 Base Points.
- diamond: 60 Nights or 30 Stays or 120,000 Base Points.
Last year, however, the status requirements were relaxed. Earn 7 Silver nights, 28 Gold nights and 42 top Diamond status. Also, Hilton rolls over nights beyond status requirements (note: only nights carry over, not stays or Base Points). You can reclaim your status in 2023 without stepping into a Hilton lobby this year. .
For example, if you earned 38 nights last year (10 nights above your Gold requirement), you can carry over 10 nights this year. To calculate rollover nights, subtract the 2022 Elite Nights requirement from the 2022 Elite Nights.
Or earn Diamond status by holding a Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card.
Information on the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card has been independently collected by Points Guy. Card details on this page are not verified or provided by the card issuer.
At the time of this writing, Hilton rollover nights have not yet been reflected in my tested account.

IHG Rollover Night
Like Hilton, IHG One Rewards rollover eligible nights beyond Gold, Platinum and Diamond Elite. The notable exception is Silver Elite, so nights earned beyond Silver Elite (11-19 nights) do not carry over.
Rollover nights are valid for a maximum of one calendar year. To earn IHG One Rewards status this year, you must:
- silver elite: 10 nights
- gold elite: 20 Nights or 40,000 Elite Qualifying Points.
- platinum elite: 40 Nights or 60,000 Elite Qualifying Points.
- diamond elite: 70 Nights or 120,000 Elite Qualifying Points.
Let’s assume you have earned 62 elite qualifying nights in 2022. This beats Platinum Elite by 22 nights, so IHG rolls over 22 elite qualifying nights. That means you can at least qualify for Gold Elite this year.
These rollover nights are beginning to post to member accounts following testing.
