The Samsung Galaxy S22 has the same size screen as the iPhone 14, but beats it in refresh rate, has a more modern design and benefits from an extra camera (telephoto lens).
Despite having a newer chipset than Apple’s phones, it has poorer stamina, fewer pixels, and less power, making it perform poorly on some basic functions.

In 2022, this will lead to a head-to-head race between the iPhone 14 and the Samsung Galaxy S22. So which phone is the better?
These two phones have as much differences as they have in common, and pitching them against each other proves to be a fascinating exercise.
iPhone 14 vs Samsung Galaxy S22: Pricing and Availability
The iPhone 14 launched on September 16, 2022. Prices start at $799 / £849 / AU$1,399 for the 128GB entry-level model, $899 / £959 / AU$1,579 for the 256GB and $1,099 / £1,179 / AU$1,899 for the 512GB. .
The Samsung Galaxy S22 was launched in the US on February 25th, 2022, followed by Australia on March 3rd and the UK on March 11th. Pricing starts at $799 / £769 / AU$1,249 for the 128GB model and $849 / £819 / AU$1,349 for the 256GB model.
In pure US pricing terms, these phones are priced very similarly. This is different outside the US, especially in the UK where Samsung is much cheaper.
Also, there is about 7 months between these phones. That means the Samsung Galaxy S22 is often even cheaper when you shop around.
iPhone 14 vs Samsung Galaxy S22: Design
The iPhone 14 looks a lot like the iPhone 13 and its predecessor, the iPhone 12. It has the same shape, the same flat glass front and back, and the same flat aluminum frame.

Both of these phones feature 6.1-inch OLED displays that offer rich, vibrant HDR colors. However, it’s a little different.
The iPhone 14’s display is downright sharp, with a resolution of 1170 x 2532 that matches the Galaxy S22’s 1080 x 2340. This isn’t a huge difference, but it does ensure that small text looks sharper on the iPhone.
The Galaxy S22’s display, on the other hand, is much more fluid than its rivals. Samsung’s 120Hz refresh rate support far surpasses his 60Hz on the iPhone 14.

Apple’s new Photonic Engine adds an extra low-light punch while applying a deep fusion process early in the shot. In short, it’s a low-light beast.
Samsung’s main camera features an all-new 50MP wide sensor and f/1.8 aperture. The company’s punchy color science is the most divisive point here, especially compared to the iPhone’s more natural look.
Both phones offer a 12MP ultra-wide angle to capture detailed shots. Of course, the Galaxy S22 has the upper hand in zoom shots, but the iPhone 14 has to crop its main sensor.
Apple has improved the iPhone 14’s 12MP front-facing camera, adding autofocus and offering a wider f/1.9 aperture. Apple says this will give you great low-light focused selfie shots and group shots that can be taken from a distance.

iPhone 14 vs Samsung Galaxy S22: specs and performance
I have to admit, the iPhone 14’s processor was a bit of a disappointment upon release. The iPhone 14 Pro moves to the A16 Bionic, but retains the same A15 Bionic we saw in the previous generation.
However, the A15 Bionic remains the more capable chip than the Samsung Galaxy S22, whichever model we are talking about. Depending on where Samsung got it, you’ll get either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or the Exynos 2200 chipset.
They’re both 4nm chips (compared to the A15 Bionic’s less efficient 5nm chip), have roughly equivalent power, and the off-the-shelf Snapdragon is slightly better than the bespoke one. And neither can match the iPhone 14’s chip in CPU or GPU output.
Elsewhere, the iPhone 14 comes with 6GB of RAM and the Galaxy S22 has 8GB. However, due to the differences between iOS and Android, a direct comparison is meaningless.
Importantly, both phones are extremely fast and responsive, and can handle high-end games with ease.
In terms of storage, the iPhone 14 comes in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. With the Galaxy S22, you can only choose 128GB or 256GB.
iPhone 14 vs Samsung Galaxy S22: Battery
The iPhone 14 has a 3,279mAh battery and the Galaxy S22 has a 3,700mAh cell. Again, due to the differences in how iOS and Android work, a direct comparison of capacities is meaningless.
While the Samsung Galaxy S22 had around 12 hours of battery life under varying and fairly constant use, reviewers report that the iPhone 14 got over a day of battery life on a single charge.
Neither phone is impressive in terms of charging. The Galaxy S22 only supports wired charging up to 25W, while the iPhone 14 only supports his 20W charging. Neither came with a charger in the box.
Both phones support Qi wireless charging. Samsung is 15W, iPhone is 7.5W. The latter can reach the staggering heights of 15W wireless only if you invest in a special MagSafe charger.
