The Italian Minister of Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto, signed a decree approving the development of a centralized electrical energy storage system.

With the European Commission approving the plans submitted by Italy in December 2023, Pichetto’s signature permits the electrical energy TSO Terna to prepare tenders to amass power storage capability.

The ministry wrote, “The measure that can permit Terna to begin procurement procedures will enter the operational section, with the primary public sale geared toward electrochemical storage programs to be held within the first half of 2025.”
