Despite dozens of protesters filling the Hinds County Board of Supervisors assembly room Monday morning, supervisors accredited a photo voltaic farm that would be the largest within the state when accomplished.
Local residents, principally from Raymond and Bolton, stood outdoors the Hinds County Chancery Court with indicators opposing the photo voltaic farm. Protesters wore inexperienced shirts that learn “Not In My Backyard” or “NIMBY” and held indicators that learn “Say No to Big Solar.”
The photo voltaic farm, referred to as Soul City Solar, is being developed by Apex Clean Energy in Charlottesville, Virginia. The farm will produce 396 megawatts of electrical energy, sufficient for 95,000 properties, on just below 6,000 acres of land close to Raymond, Bolton and Clinton.
Supervisors accredited the mission, giving Soul City Solar a conditional use allow to construct and function the photo voltaic farm.
District 1 Supervisor and Board President Robert Graham, District 2 Supervisor Tony Smith and District 4 Supervisor Wanda Evers voted in favor, whereas District 3 Supervisor Deborah Butler-Dixon and District 5 Supervisor Bobby “Bobcat” McGowan voted in opposition to.
This is a growing story.
