iOS 16 should introduce a fresh and seamless new process for migrating your existing Apple Watch from your old iPhone to your new iPhone.
- Set up a new iPhone and restore your backup, or complete a quick transfer option from your old iPhone.
- After setting up your new iPhone, make sure your Apple Watch is on your wrist (and your passcode is entered).
- Find the message on your watch and tap Would you like to pair your Watch with your new iPhone?
- Choose all right
- You can leave the watch on your wrist while the transfer takes place. Workout/ring progress from earlier in the day will also remain after the transfer.

Pair a new or existing watch with your Apple Watch backup
- If you’re upgrading to a new iPhone, set it up first (restore from a new backup).

Pair your new Apple Watch with your new iPhone
If you need to pair a new Apple Watch with your iPhone, or want to pair your existing Apple Watch as new:

- You will be given the option to restore the backup from your previous watch to your new watch.
Force Apple Watch backup
If you don’t see any backups you can restore from, you’ll have to force a backup.
Apple Watch backups are not done with iCloud on iPhone or all Mac/PC backups, so here’s how Apple enforces them.
- Keep your paired Apple Watch and your old iPhone close together

- Tap all watches Select the clock at the top and tap the “i” on the right
- Tap Unpair your Apple Watch (During the unpairing process, your Apple Watch will create a new backup on your iPhone)
- Follow the prompts to unpair your current watch
- Make a new backup of your old iPhone and restore that backup to your new iPhone
- Open the Watch app on your new iPhone to start the pairing process for your new Watch
- Power on your new Apple Watch, look for the pairing sphere code and follow the prompts
- When prompted, choose to restore your new Apple Watch from a backup and choose the latest
