Rescuers in San Bernardino, California, credit Apple’s Find My iPhone feature for saving the life of a woman who fell 200 feet off a highway in an accident.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department posted on Facebook about Monday’s rescue, and was dispatched to a reported traffic crash later that day after a person who called 911 reported the vehicle was on the far side of the driveway. I got
“Arriving crew found the vehicle approximately 200 feet below the roadway. Fire and emergency personnel descended into the vehicle and found an adult female with serious injuries. The crew was on advanced life support equipment. (ALS) intervention began and arriving rescue teams set up a rope system to lift the victim and rescue workers to safety,” the San Bernardino County Fire Department posted on Facebook. “Firefighters utilized special Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) equipment, including a capstan elevation system to lift members to safety.”
Rescuers believed the incident occurred on Christmas Day, but it was the Find My iPhone app that allowed authorities to locate the victim, the San Bernardino County Fire Department said.
“The patient may have been in the crashed car overnight after leaving a family gathering. I used it to track her whereabouts. According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, after locating his cell phone, he saw a vehicle next to him and called 911.
After making it safely, the woman was loaded into a waiting ambulance and taken to a local trauma center, the San Bernardino County Fire Department said.
