Eglin Air Force Base, Florida —
The 850th Spectrum Warfare Group’s Wavelength recently launched a digital learning series that applies modern software development ideologies to everyday work with a focus on improving digital literacy and effectiveness.
The series covers three topics through various workshops over the course of a week on each topic. Recently, U.S. Air Force Colonel Josh Kosloff, commander of the 350th Spectrum Warfare Wing, held a workshop in the form of his Fireside chat focused on learning culture imperatives.
850th SWG Wavelength software developer, US Air Force Lieutenant Ian Gardocki said: “they [the Fireside Chats] It also provides an opportunity for the audience to engage with the leader in an informal setting and ask any questions they may have. ”
Each Topic Week in the Digital Learning Series is divided into three workshops. The first workshop focuses on lectures that provide insights for speakers to build a foundation for the week’s topic. After the lectures there will be workshops where members can apply what they have learned in a more practical way. Finally, there will be office hours where presenters from previous sessions will answer members’ questions.
For this workshop, Koslov led a Fireside Chat via video call where 28 members answered questions focused on how to turn 350th SWW into a learning organization.
“Being a learning organization is the hallmark of the organization we are trying to build,” said Koslov. “The key is being able to see what our goals are and understand if we’re getting there. If not, how and why, and what corrections are needed.”
Members asked a range of questions, including understanding commanders’ intentions, how to grow professionally, and developing young airmen with an opportunistic view of challenges.
Koslov ended the fireside chat by emphasizing that the knowledge the wing members need to focus on is to fight and defeat China.
“Members have found the program to be insightful,” says Gardocki. “The ability to listen to lectures on modern software development, engage with key leaders, and apply what they learn empowers them to accelerate change in their areas of responsibility.”
The series is open to all members of 350th SWW and will return in January to cover the topic of breaking the digital myth in government.
