WILLIAMSBURG — The Armed Services Committee of the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce coordinated homes for its annual holiday campaign, awarding a record 40 servicemen returning home for the holidays $300 in travel expenses.
The Home for the Holidays campaign is a holiday travel scholarship fundraiser for military personnel at the US Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown and US Naval Weapons Station Yorktown.
According to the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce, the generosity of local individuals and businesses has resulted in a record number of scholarships being awarded to military personnel returning home to visit their families. The committee awarded him 17 more scholarships than in 2021.
Jim Eisenour of the James City and County Board of Supervisors heads the commission.
Scholarships were also awarded during a no-photo ceremony for members of the Marine Corps Security Force Regiment at the Naval Weapons Station.
