The Benue State Police Command has arrested a man named Bemdu Atba for allegedly burning down a school classroom in the state’s Gwa East Local Government Area.
Arsonists allegedly burned down blocks of RCM primary schools in Moiigbo, Mbarom and Gwah East after stealing computers from the school.
State Police spokeswoman SP Katherine Annen confirmed the incident.
In a short message, Annen said:of
The suspect is in custody and an investigation is ongoing. ”
Benue State Universal Basic Education Commission Executive Chairman Joseph Utse condemned the act as a crime.
When the chairman visited the scene of the incident last Wednesday with SUBEB management, school principal Timothy Uklodu said Oladuen, who was known for his criminal activity in the community, had allegedly broken into the school and used computers. He said he took it and left. I burned the blocks to make it look like the computer was on fire with other equipment.
“But he was tracked down by a young man and caught in a computer system,” he added.
The visibly angry chairman said education is necessary for the development of any society, but the school arson shows that the community is unprepared for both education and development.
The SUBEB boss called on young people to stop criminal behavior and advised parents to discipline their children morally.
