Terre Haute, Indiana (WTHI) – It’s a busy time of year with travel, and grifters are using their vacations to make money in other ways. The Better Business Bureau has issued a lost and found package warning.
This trick is easy. If you are unlucky enough to lose your package, scammers will create a fake collection service company and trick you into paying them to find your package. According to the BBB, criminals created a fake girlfriend website that looked real and demanded personal information and a fee to find lost items.
BBB says you don’t have to pay another company to find yours.
Jennifer Adamany of the Better Business Bureau, which serves Central Indiana, said:
To avoid falling for this scam, BBB tells them to stay calm. Criminals will use your emotions to trick you into making unthinkable decisions. We never pay a third party to submit a report. Instead, find the airline and file your report there. You don’t have to pay for files.
