Paris, France – January 12, 2023 – Atos today announced that it has been selected by AVL List GmbH in Austria to provide new high-performance computing clusters based on BullSequana XH2000 servers and five years of maintenance services. As the world’s leading mobility technology provider for development, simulation and testing in the automotive industry, the company utilizes his Atos supercomputer to drive more complex and powerful simulations while optimizing energy consumption.
AVL is a global supplier to the automotive industry, providing customers with highly complex computer simulations for the design, development and testing of powertrains, workpieces, drive units and large engines. Every step of the process is digitally represented and requires high and reliable computer performance and storage capacity. This cluster is used for a wide range of applications from finite element analysis (FEA) for structural optimization and crash simulations to fluid dynamics simulations of combustion processes and battery cooling. Commercial software packages from well-known manufacturers and AVL-List’s proprietary Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software package FIRE are used for this task.
The new computer network implemented by Atos has more than doubled computational performance in engineering, allowing it to more than halve the processing time of computational tasks in customer projects. It can also provide a wider variety of computational results without accessing external computing resources such as cloud instances. This allows you to quickly and efficiently adapt your engineering workflow to new tasks.
With this cluster, AVL also benefits from energy-efficient systems including Atos’ direct liquid cooling (DLC). This technique was developed to avoid overheating. It ensures almost noiseless and particularly stable operation while consuming significantly less power than traditional cooling systems.
“AVLof passion is innovation,os supercomputer It meets its requirements in terms of performance and energy efficiency. The XH2000 cluster’s Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) technology opens up an unprecedented performance range with minimal energy requirements and a green footprint, as 95% of waste heat is not emitted to the environment and used further . through the cooling water circuit.”Ed Günter Bachler, Senior IT System Administrator, AVL List GmbH.
Stefan Kero, Head of Advanced ComputingCentral Eastern EuropeAthos, additionEd: “High-performance computers are one of the key technologies of our time, and have become indispensable. science, medical research, Not only in the weather forecast, but also in the industry, Especially in developing digital products. With HPC, industrial players can: Accelerate the construction of digital prototypes – This can be quickly done as many times as needed in many variants – therefore get flexicompetence and innovation. We are happy to support AVL Simulating and testing automotive technology for safer mobility.”
