A Malaysian cook unintentionally showed that an iPhone can survive being briefly dropped into a pot of boiling oil.
A cook on TikTok who goes by the handle @zaiem_ainn posted a video praising the resilience of Apple products after accidentally frying his phone for a few seconds.
At the beginning of the video, Zayem, who is based in Kampung Phaya Keladi, Penang Island, Malaysia, explained how to make sure the fried chicken is perfectly cooked.
In Malay, he tells viewers what to do when pieces of fried chicken float on top of a pan of oil, and he brings his phone close to the pan to demonstrate.
However, the phone slips out of his hand and falls straight into the boiling oil.
The device continues to record as it swirls in the pot, and the sound of bubbling oil and Zayem’s attempts to fish it out can be heard in the video.
After about 12 seconds he lifts it out of the pan. The video shows a blurred image of his face as he carries it off the stove.
TikTok then cuts to another clip of a cook and another person checking out the functionality of their iPhone, seemingly surprised that the iPhone is still working.
The text placed above the video read: I am satisfied with your product. ”
The video, which has been viewed more than 896,000 times, has received comments from viewers who were also impressed with the phone.
Apple advertises iPhone models from iPhone 7 to 14 as splash, water, and dust resistant, but not fly resistant.
However, viewers joked that the video proved the phone was “cooking oil proof” and that the feature should be included in Apple’s next advertising campaign.
One wrote, “Best testimony ever,” while another said, “So this is what it feels like to be fried.”
