Thousands of people receive new desktop or laptop computers during the holiday season. Many of these newer systems run the Windows 11 operating system, and many of those computers are designated for gaming. Unfortunately, this is where so many people mistakenly believe that the default settings and configurations are sufficient for gaming performance.

Whether you buy your new Windows 11 computer from Best Buy, Dell, or an online boutique, it needs to be tweaked and optimized for gaming. The first step in getting your new PC ready for gaming is to take a few simple but important steps that will turn an ordinary PC into an extraordinary PC with the highest potential performance.
7 tips for your Windows 11 gaming computer
The tips and suggestions below have been previously covered individually on TechRepublic, but the real benefit of these ideas comes when you apply them together.
1. Turn on Game Mode
Windows Game Mode improves performance by allocating more resources to gaming applications, turning off notifications, and shutting down or slowing down most background activities. Background apps such as file indexing, feature updates, malware scanning, etc. CPU stealing have to wait while you play the game.

2. Prioritize GPU for certain games
On the game mode screen,[グラフィック]Click an item to display a different default setting that you want to change. For graphical games, you should always specify to use the high-performance GPU during gameplay.

3. Disable Advanced Pointer Precision
This next game performance tip is probably the most vague. Windows 11 attempts to improve the user experience with a specific set of mouse enhancements through the Enhanced Pointer Precision setting. However, many games do the same thing and can compete with each other, causing inefficient mouse pointer movement, contrary to what was intended.
For gaming computers, we recommend turning off Enhanced Pointer Precision. Search for “mouse properties” in the desktop search and select[関連設定]from the section[追加のマウス設定]Choose. Figure C.[マウスのプロパティ]on the screen,[ポインター オプション]Select Tab and turn off Improve pointer precision.

4. Update your GPU drivers
GPU drivers are constantly being updated and enhanced for better and more reliable performance, regardless of manufacturer. NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel graphics cards perform best with the latest drivers, so your gaming computer should be updated regularly.
The factory-installed graphics card driver is likely several times behind in release, so it’s imperative that you spend a few minutes updating your driver before you start installing the game.
5. Update Windows
Similarly, it’s important to update Windows 11 before installing any applications or games on your new gaming computer. The factory version of Windows 11 may be several versions behind the current release, requiring new security protocols to be put in place to protect.
Also check for additional and optional updates, as drivers for chipsets, network cards, and other hardware may be a few releases behind. All systems must be up-to-date and secure to achieve peak performance.
6. Disable unnecessary startup apps other than games
Depending on the company that assembled your new Windows 11 gaming computer, there may be just a few unwanted or promotional applications, or there may be dozens or more. These apps are generally mostly harmless, but they can slow down your gaming PC’s performance if you don’t remove them.
[スタート]Open the menu and find the app. While scrolling through the list of apps, right-click the app you want to uninstall. Start with the obvious promotional apps by third-party developers and consider other applications that are impractical for gaming computers. The list of candidates you can remove will be tailored to you and your situation.
7. Enable optimized high performance power plan

There’s a potential power setting called Ultimate mode that’s perfect for desktop gaming computers running Windows 11, but that setting requires special steps and a Windows registry file hack.
Optimize for games
Getting a new computer is an exciting event for most people. Getting a new computer for gaming is even more exciting, but it takes some preparation and optimization to prepare that computer for the performance needs of the latest games. It takes a few minutes to prepare your new computer before loading games and other applications onto it.
